 OVERVIEW

Carved songbirds are such a joy to watch as they 'come alive' in our
hands. We can almost see them hopping and fluttering about at the
feeder. With each stoned-in feather group and every stroke of the burning
tip, the piece of wood transforms right in front of our eyes. This course
will help the student understand the importance of basic bird anatomy,
which in turn will help create a more lifelike carving. Techniques to
develop the "essence" of the bird, as well as stoning, burning, eye setting,
feet placement and painting are all covered. Teaching aids include skins,
casts, in-progress works, and reference photos. Novice carvers with some
experience and experienced carvers all benefit from this course.
